Top 5 Things That Tick Off Irihi No Matter How Hard You Try To Make Sure It Won't:
1. Overpowered/Illogical/'Recolored'/Fucking Retarded Ass OCs - No, seriously, I don't mind a few OCs now and then in a fanwork. I can't include all OCs when I myself use one (Delia, from Song of Memory: Redux). But here's the thing that pisses me off--when people's OCs make no goddamn sense, have no place in the fandom, and are somehow 'fatefully' better or on par with the canonical characters.
NO. Just NO. You are not some uber fucking special gift from God to the universe of your (unfortunate) chosen fandom. There's a reason the canonical heroes are powerful and seperate from the non-hero characters of the game/anime/book/whathaveyou, because the story is about them. A fanwork is a show of your support of what happens in the game, even if you're tweaking it to suit your tastes (such as the yaoi fandom of MMX/MMZ.). Tweaking what's there is fine. Having an OC or two that help the plot but are not the spotlight and the world revolves around them is dandy. But an OC that saves the fucking world where the heroes failed--and, might I add, said OC has some unwordly power NOT EVEN RELATED TO THE FANDOM UNIVERSE--is fail OC and pisses me off cause why the fuck am I supposed to be interested and reading a "fic" that revolves around some person who isn't part of the game/anime/whathaveyou I'm looking at? If I wanted random ass people not related to my fandom, I'd go read a goddamn original novel.
I'm not impeding on your creativity. You're impeding on the fandom. GTFO. If you want to be creative in ways that involve original characters that are 'better' than canonical ones, go write something original. Fanfiction is meant to stretch your creativity when set in an already established world. Tweaks are good. Self-inserting your ass into it is not.
OH. AND ALSO. If you fucking must have an OC... FFS, make it a real, original character. Not a knock off of another character like Zero or X, or some freaky, creepy eye-raping furry weird ass thing that has no reason or logic to be in the particular fandom, but actually looks like it belongs to AN UNRELATED FANDOM. Some fandoms are NOT MEANT TO CROSS. I know boundaries are meant to be broken. STATE LINES ARE NOT.
I'd like to add a special note: If you do have such an OC who's role is much like the heroes of the fandom, but there is STRONG LOGIC, SOLID IDEAS and BELIEVABLE reasons your OC exists, I may not be including you in this.
If you are a copy of canonical character, you automatically fail and make people rage. Quit making people rage, goddammit.
2. Overly Retarded Purple Prose/Flowery Language
Guess what? You're not a poet, and definately not Shakespere. Go ahead and write what's deemed professional... but I (and others) can't take you seriously when you're talking like a moron who's trying way too fucking hard. Yes, use descriptive words. Yes, assist us in imagining the image you want to get across. Lay off the attempt to sound poetic. No one gives that much of a fuck after the fourth line of just how much passion is between two people. We get it. Move the fuck on. It's hard to explain what exactly I'm bitching about, but its mostly that fake, stupid, obviously-trying-to-hard-to-impress word usage that makes you want to barf. I have a very specific example in mind, but I don't wanna hear the emofest if I actually showed it/linked it. Trust me when I say everyone has seen it and went "wtf are you TRYING to say?".
3. Too Much Talking For No Goddamn Reason
Sometimes a lengthy conversation needs to happen. But who the hell sits there, minutes on end, facing each other and just talk? Very few. Throw in something else between the endless quotes.
Better yet, show, don't tell. Sometimes no one needs to speak to get a point across. A pet peeve I touched on in the LJ I never really ranted properly about... people don't talk that much during sex. They got other things to waste their breath on. We readers also don't give a fuck for full length conversations during sex scenes. Teach the characters to shut up. A few words here and there is fine. But full on speeches? Be quiet goddammit.
4. People That Support Retarded OCs (See No.1 For The Meaning of 'Retarded OCs')
Stop. Fucking stop. DO NOT FEED THE TROLL. Stop ruining the fandom aarrgghhhh whhhyyyyy?
5. People Who Are Dicks In General
I'm probably being hypocritical with this one. But seriously. Do you have to be such a goddamn wanker? At least I do it in a blog where its my territory. I don't care if the Internet lets you be anon and all that, don't be an asshole for no goddamn reason. And get the fuck off my page if that's all you're gonne do.

Things just don't wanna work in my favor, it seems!
I know that sounds emo-ish and it kinda is, but I'll skip it (who really wants to read an emo-y blog? I mean, really? XD)
So basically ch.30 for Song of Memory: Redux is in the works right fuckin' now and I should hopefully get it up within the next day or so. I wanted it up before midnight, cause then I could have said, I got 30 chapters done in 2010! Haha, silly me I know. Didn't work out though.
Right now ch.30 is chock full of hints, clues and foreshadowing and I'm sort of of worried it won't quite work the I want, but nothing is meant to 'explode' until ch.31, after all the technical stuff happens and the characters are set up where I want them when shit hits the fan (again!).
I know my chapters are horrendously short, but that's just how its set up. Hopefully once the action picks up (as from ch.33 on, it's all non-stop! /wink) even if the chapters are short, the content was well worth waiting for and keeps my readers interested on the edge of their seats.
All sorts of surprises are in the incoming final 20 chapters! Yes, SoM:R is going to end at the Chapter 50 mark, plus an Epilogue. And then I can lean back and say, "Wow, I finished a really long ass fanfic." and I hope my readers can say they enjoyed the ride.
I'm planning to buy the X-collection with X7 and X8 here soon, and after ch.30 I might take extra time off the story to re-play the games I've played (X-X6) and go through the ones I haven't (X7 and X8) so I got a real grasp of what I'm writing. What I'm proud of in SoM:R is that despite it not following the games exactly, I still got enough 'root' in the canonical happenings that my events are at least logical/belivable (I think so anyway XD), and I want to make sure I keep that root. Characterization is a different ballgame--I know my personifications of X, Zero, Axl and co. aren't exactly spot-on canon, but hopefully they're close enough to be 'true' yet still 'fresh.'

@Kallan: I did that til the last day of my semester. It's such a fucking hard habit to break lmao and it's a terrible one. Yet I always get better grades with last minute shit than stuff I do early. Go figure!
@Elise: I DID make a Girouette, but my screenshot folder got wiped. Now that I've been reminded, I now want to go try and remake him. lol (IthinkItriedtomakeChernobyltoo/shotdead) Don't ever get into MMOs. Waste of time, money, and... generally too addictive. XD
@Ink: Zero is older than X? I thought they were about the same age. As for Zero liking kids, I know a lot of fans like to think he does (typically, it's almost stereotypical that the 'cold, silent types' actually like kids/puppies/kittens), but I personally think Zero doesn't really care, especially since Alouette is a Reploid--she's programmed to act young, but if you tinkered, she could be an old wise woman in a kid's body. Zero in the Z-series isn't really the type to 'hang out' so much as he just sort of... is there. People'll talk to him, he might talk back, might not. As for people trying to 'undo' the ending of Z4, that's kinda expected to happen since in the Completed Works, Zero's whereabouts are 'unknown', even if its obvious he died. Plus, everyone seems to think love will make everything okay and its all right to forget family if you love someone, "He has Ciel now, he doesn't need the others!" too bad she's a human and, I dunno, has a much earlier expiration date than Zero. Tsk tsk.
As for the crack theory, a lot of people have pointed that out, and it does make sense even in a non-slash view. I've only read one 'real' gender-bent X (there's quite a few cross-dressing fics, but not real gender-change) fic, and it was all right, but its also old as hell XD I've seen lots of art where X is cast in a very feminine light (ESPECIALLY his Zero-series incarnation) and I myself make a lot of fun over him sometimes, but X is still very male regardless if he wants peace or not. Par X7's shitastic characterization, X may hate fighting, but he still gets off his ass and does it... and does it rather destructively. I don't think many put it in this light, but Zero uses a saber, which is meant to strike at weaknesses and take down an enemy effectively and cleanly. X shoots off a giant blast of energy, completely olbilerating and destroying his enemy. (This is of course, ignore the whole 'every enemy blows up upon death' thing in the games.) In a sense, X is a very destructive person, and typically, destructive = masucline. You can also look at Copy X, who is also often esmasculated because of his naivete and small stature, but despite that, look at the amount of damage he can and did do, both in terms of physical and emotional. He put terror into people's hearts--people who once adored and loved X, and he could (realistically thinking anyway) level the city with his Seraphim form without much of a thought. A lot of people make X out to be a sweet little puppy, which he typically is, but X is also the most dangerous person alive I think, a point lots of fans seem to ignore, both in slash and non-slash.

Okay, so I'm playing Aion: The Tower of Eternity. It's a MMO, and this new event is going on. You can do a quest up to 10 times and each time you do, you get a chance at items that sell for a LOT of money. So, me and the fam decide we're gonna 'farm' this event, by making characters, leveling them to 10, doing the event, deleting, then making chars, etc etc.
Here's where my nerdiness kicks in.
In case you can't see it well, those are my temporary characters, Vent and Aile, from Megaman ZX. They obviously don't look like said characters, but I might try for more likeness next time.
I'ma make Girouette next. I'll make him blond haired blue eyed and all that lol see what I can do!

First off, thanks for checking out the site and enjoying the fanfics! I appreciate all of my readers. =)
I know what you mean about Ciel's age. I believe she starts in MMZ1 at age 14, and in Z2, she's 15 til the end (2 months between Z2 and Z3, and not long at all before Z3 and Z4) so despite her maturity in all other regards, in terms of romance, I don't really view Ciel all that mature at all. Also, although you didn't outright say it, YAY someone ELSE admits to something between Elpizo and Ciel, despite it being one-sided! Than again, Elpizo himself wasn't very "old" either. If he lived and Ciel was a little older I'd totally advocated Elpizo/Ciel.
Zero, to me, is not the type to stay in one place once his duty is fulfilled. He's too restless, too on edge. This is shown in Z3, when apparently it's been 2 months of quiet, almost peacefulness, but he was constantly on edge, even snapping at Ciel and the others to shut up because they were "on a mission." To me, Zero takes things extremely seriously, far too much for someone as young as Ciel. I don't know, although Zero was typically encouraging for Ciel, in the situation they were in, it was beneficial for him to be kind. When they weren't in immediate danger (such as the intro to Z3), Zero was quick to be 'mean' to her.
I wish they put more emphasis on how Zero was during both of X's deaths. At the end of Z1, Zero had already remembered enough about X to know they "were always the best of partners" (direct quote.), and he looked incredibly pissed that Elpizo was threatening X's physical body. But afterwards, he was just fixated on Dark Elf... and X hardly reacted to his own death. Then again, as some of my one-shots implied, X had seen it coming and as you've said, Zero probably didn't get the "full" impact of X's death. The second death, I don't think Zero knew until much later, and by the time Z4 rolls around, Zero must put on the facade of being "okay" or else the Resistance would crumble, and he knew it.

I was nice in replying, but I still found it hilarious. One, it's IRIS (if you're going to advocate a het pairing, KNOW WHO'S IN IT), two, WHERE in canon does it say Zero likes Ciel more than friendship? Hm? Three, its fanfiction, I can do whatever the fuck I want.

Been having my brain shot repeatedly by talking to the ex-boy. I'll get on board with writing again soon, promise.
All right so my first MMX story ever was Song of Memory, of which I'm re-writing as Song of Memory: Redux.
So far I'm relatively happy with the fanfic. It could use a few touch ups but the 28 chapters posted are still pretty good quality. I think the build up wasn't too long or too short, Zero's depression over Iris and Colonel was relatively realistic, the sex wasn't just fanservice and had emotion associated to it, etc. I hope I can continue to churn out quality chapters despite the business of nursing school.
Right now SoM:R is meant to end around the 50 chapter mark. Currently we are in what I call the "Nightmare Arc", which will be a combination of X6, X7, and a little bit of X8. That's right, we'll see the Hunters getting pelted by Gate's Nightmare virus and Red Alert, and that's just the outside influences.
What I'm going to ramble about right now isn't so much related to the Arc itself as it is one of the factors: the Axl and Delia relationship.
Right now the way the story is going, Axl and Delia are going to hook up. Delia is flirting shamelessly with Axl and Axl is hitting puberty. I plan to hook them together but, I wonder how far they'll go. Sometimes no matter how much I plan the story and characters do their own thing it seems.
They can simply date, or actually get heavy into each other, or possibly never date at all and it's more one-sided. Either way it goes X and Zero aren't gonna be happy, especially X. He's so angry nowadays you'd think he was PMSing! Who's ever seen X so lashy outside of Zero dying? Zero is typically the lashy one. Hmmm.
The other factor of the Nightmare Arc that's also sort of getting me is the Gate/Alia/Signas triangle. I've always been a fan of Signas/Alia as a het couple, but Gate/Alia also has tons of potential. My question is, should I even put any real emphasis on this triangle, or keep other couplings to a minimum and focus only on Zero and X? I know I'll show brief Signas/Alia moments as the story unfolds, but should I add a little more just for some diversity? I kinda want to, but I don't want to clutter my story if its completely unwanted.
