Silly X
X was having a good day, for the most part, just making rounds around the new Resistance Base with Zero and keeping him company. Several squards of Resistance fighters had just returned from their own gathering and scouting missions, providing the ever researching Ciel with materials she needed and hardass Zero with up-to-date intel. If X closed his eyes and pretended, it was like the Maverick Hunters all over again.
"Harpuia is playing it safe," Zero was saying as he went through the door leading to a set of dorms. X, only now a little ball of light near Zero's shoulder, flickered in response. "He keeps his soldiers in Neo Arcadian borders, knows where we are yet makes no move. He's either watching and waiting, or completely ignoring us."
"If you're fishing for extra information from me, Zero, I don't have any to provide."
Zero shrugged the shoulder X wasn't hovering over as he peeked into each room. He was going to give a nonchalant reply when he barreled right into a Resistance member just leaving a dorm room. More out of instinct than thought, Zero grasped the unfortunate by their shoulders and kept both of them up on their feet.
"Damn...!" glancing down, Zero was face to face with a red-headed female Reploid. "Sorry."
She glanced up at him, blinking several times before her face lit up. "Oh!" she giggled, and Zero's hands dropped from her shoulders. "Mr. Zero! It's been forever since I've seen you! Do you remember me?"
Zero scrunched up his face, looking her over. X remained hidden under some of Zero's hair, peeking through the golden strands wearily. Just who was this girl? Since when did Zero make easy friends out of girls?
"Yes, I do." Zero finally said, nodding.
The girl clapped her hands happily. "Of course you do!" she declared. "Gosh, Mr. Zero, I owe you so much for saving me way back when--if not for you, I'd be dead, or possibly worse! And I hardly ever thanked you, and it's... wow, it's been over a year! I'm a horrible person." she pouted at herself.
Zero was obviously at a bit of a loss, but he tried not to show it. "Just doing my job."
"Oh, I know!" the Reploid girl bolted back into her dorm, returning seconds later with a large sack that she dumped into Zero's hands. By the feel of it, it was a huge sack of Energy Crystals. "You raise a lot of Cyber-elves, right? I bet it gets expensive--I hope these help!"
Zero looked down at the bag. "Than--"
"And a little something extra..." when Zero glanced at her again, the girl grasped him by his helmet's cheekguards and planted a large, wet kiss right on his closed lips.
Zero immediately locked up and tried to jerk his head back, eyes wide. The girl let him go with a giggle and blush, and Zero stared at her. Under his hair, X was shaking, although the blond wasn't sure why he was shaking when it was Zero who just got molested...
"Don't tell Ciel, Mr. Zero," the girl said, winking. "Human girls get upset over things like that. I'll see you later!" with that, she skipped off, Zero still staring at the spot she stood, still holding the sack of Energy Crystals.
X zipped out of the cover of Zero's hair and materialized himself, scowling. He snatched the bag out of Zero's hands, the sudden movement and sound shaking Zero out of his shock. The blond looked at his friend, who was about to chuck the bag down the hall.
"The nerve of that tramp!" X hissed. Before he threw the bag, Zero grabbed it back, causing the Cyber Elf to whirl around to him with a hurt expression. "You're going to keep those?"
"Waste not," Zero said, then wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "But I certainly could have... done without that."
"You're not upset enough by this!" X whined, folding his arms over his chest.
"I'm upset, but I'm not going to throw a fit... and considering it happened to me, why are you throwing the tantrum?" Zero raised an eyebrow at him.
X's shimmering face seemed to tint a slight pink. "I... I just don't approve of such... such forwardness! It's so... so inappropriate and... and..."
Glancing around to ensure they were alone in the hall, Zero dared to smile. "X. Are you jealous?"
X gaped at him for a few seconds before regaining his dignity, jerking at his robe in a silly attempt to pretend straightening it. "I-I... why would I be jealous?"
Zero shrugged, smirking and turning toward the rest of the rooms to finish his patrol. "Oh, no reason... I just had this inkling you might possibly like me, but if I'm wrong..."
Once more X gaped at Zero's back, the blond managing to make it several steps before the Cyber Elf called after him. "H-hey, wait a second, Zero! Wh-what if... hey!" X floated after him, not appreciating the smug look on Zero's face when the slender blond looked over his shoulder.
"What if what?" Zero asked, black eyes coy.
X frowned, or pouted, Zero couldn't quite tell at this point. "What if I do like you in that regard?"
"Then you're being silly and being jealous over an incident, and I would tell you not to worry about it, because I didn't like it." Zero shrugged.
"You didn't?"
"Did I look like I did?"
X bit his lower lip. "Well, no..."
Zero chuckled, reaching over and patting X on the head. Touching X was always strange--there was obviously something solid there, but no warmth or coldness, as if touching something invisible. X glowered up at him, and Zero flicked at his nose.
"Silly X." Zero said affectionately. "Come on. The sooner I finish this stupid patrol, the sooner we can do something to forget this ever happened."
X couldn't help but smile. "We?"
"Just you and me, so let's go."
X happily reverted back to his simplier Elf form, regaining his place above Zero's shoulder. He hovered for a bit there before moving a little closer, rubbing his form against Zero's temple.
Zero smiled at him, closing the eye closest to X's light from the brightness. X was easy to please, he was learning.
