Drabbles
i. Translation
"I miss you."
Seemingly innocent words, followed by the usual choke hold or playful punch, left nothing to quirk an eyebrow at. Their smiles were normal, their mannerisms accepted, and no one saw those secretive little looks from the corners of their eyes.
No one saw the lingering touches, the subtle changes of their smiles and eyes. No one saw right through the words.
"I miss you," Zero replied.
X's smile grew. No one knew what they were really saying. No one except them.
ii. Meaning
There was a lot of trust going into this, but X couldn't think of anyone else he trusted more than his beloved Zero. The blond held out his hand, a mere farewell handshake to the public eye, but when their hands grasped and tightened there was so much more to it.
"Be careful." X intoned, keeping his face and voice carefully masked by friendly concern.
"Hold down the fort." Zero replied in the usual cocky manner. His fingertips grazed X's palm as they slowly released the handshake. "I'll be back before you know it."
"You better."
iii. Depth
Behind closed and locked doors the heroes of the world celebrated in a much different style. Instead of shouting and raising cans of liquid energy and cheering, they kept their voices hushed and low, their movements slow and purposeful. X's eyes closed when Zero's lips grazed his, hands entwining fingers as they laid side by side. Faces were flushed, bodies pressed close, and all they needed was just a little more time to enjoy it.
X deepened the kiss, pulled Zero even closer, and the blond would never deny him this comfort.
iv. Speech
"I'm in love with him," X murmured, bowing his head, tears streaking down his cheeks. "I've loved him all the time… so… so why?"
Alia had nothing to say, just watching X as he clung to that saber. Her fist pressed against her chest, her heart breaking at such words. Not because it meant he wouldn't return her feelings… but because he had to hide his at all.
